Yanis Online Wiki Back to the Yanis website

Getting started

Yanis Online is free. You need an account on the website, the game itself, and about 2 GB of disk space. This guide takes you from nothing to your first monster.

1. Make an account

Open Create an account on the Yanis website and pick an account name and password. No e-mail is needed. You can have 12 characters on one account.

2. Download and install

Get the setup from the Downloads page. The setup is small: the game's data and music (1.8 GB) download once, on the first start, and every update after that installs itself when you start the game.

Windows

  1. Run the setup (YanisOnline-Setup-<version>.exe). It is not signed yet, so Windows may say it protected your PC: press More info, then Run anyway.
  2. Keep Let Yanis Online run without Windows Security removing it ticked and press Yes when Windows asks. Windows Security does not know the game yet and can mistake it for a threat (Trojan:Win32/Wacatac or Bearfoos), a known false alarm for old games.
  3. It installs for your Windows user only, so no administrator password is needed.
  4. Start Yanis Online from the desktop or the Start menu.

The download page lists what a PC needs: a 64-bit Windows, a DirectX 11 graphics card (any from the last 12 years) and 2 GB free. Microsoft Edge WebView2 draws the update window; Windows 11 has it and the setup installs it where it is missing.

Linux

  1. Unpack the download where the game should live: tar -xJf YanisOnline-<version>-linux.tar.xz
  2. Run ./install.sh in the YanisOnline folder once. It adds Yanis Online to your menu and desktop.
  3. Start Yanis Online. Wine comes with the game. You need a Vulkan graphics driver (Mesa or NVIDIA), and python3 with Tk for the game window.

macOS

Coming later.

3. The first start

The Yanis Online window checks for updates and, the first time, downloads the game data with a progress bar. If it stops, start again: it carries on where it stopped. Press Setup to choose the screen size (up to 4K), full screen and sound before you play.

Tip: in a window, pick a size smaller than your screen so the title bar fits (for example 1600×900 on a 1920×1080 laptop). For your screen's full size, tick Play in Full Screen.

4. Log in and make a character

  1. Press Start and log in with the account from step 1.
  2. Pick the server and make a character in a free slot.
  3. New characters begin as a Novice in the Training Ground, the server's start point.

5. Your first levels

Experience is 50x here, so the first levels go quickly. A Novice needs job level 10 and Basic Skill level 9 to change to a first class: Swordman, Mage, Archer, Acolyte, Merchant or Thief, or one of the expanded classes (Taekwon, Gunslinger, Ninja, Super Novice). The classes page shows where each leads.

After that, the leveling guide lists maps for every level, from the fields around Prontera onward. Drops are 10x, so the item and card pages show chances well above the usual ones.

Not confirmed yet: the steps of the Training Ground on this server and where each job change NPC stands. Until the class pages have them, ask in game.
